Dental Restorative Procedures
There are a number of restorative procedures that your general or family dentist can provide. Some of the procedures may be:
Dental fillings – a general dentists main priority is the oral cavity, head, and neck. Should there be structural damage to a tooth or teeth found during a dental check-up, your dentist will restore tooth strength and structure through the use of dental fillings. There are a number of materials available for fillings. Your dentist can discuss your options and help you determine the best option for you.
Root canals – When structural damage is advanced, a root canal may be necessary. Root canal therapy removes infected pulp tissue within the root chamber of the tooth. Once the pulp is removed, an antibacterial filling is placed into the empty chamber. The tooth then receives a crown to restore natural appearance and strength. Sometimes, a general dentist will refer a root canal out to an Endodontist. However, there are general dentists who still perform this procedure in their offices.
Crowns – Dental crowns are used to repair extensively decayed or damaged teeth. Crowns are available in different materials, such as gold, silver metals or porcelain. Your skilled general dentist will be able to advise you on which type of crown may be most suitable in your particular situation.
